Reclaiming time through ritual.
Not a Clock is a tool for mindful living. It challenges our modern relationship with time by offering a more serene and poetic way to manage and value its passage. This conceptual design reinterprets the classic hourglass, blending its form with the clean geometry of an analogue clock. In doing so, it aims to reconnect users with the preciousness of time.
Visual Cues, Not Numbers
Inspired by the work of Lukas Avenas, the product utilizes visual cues instead of traditional numbers. As sand gradually flows from the top chamber to a hidden reservoir, it creates a visual representation of approximately 50 minutes remaining. This shift in perspective encourages a more tangible and mindful relationship with time.
A Time for Reflection
This object is an active participant in our mindful journey. The ritualistic act of manually winding the mainspring and returning the sand to its starting point isn't just practical. It's a moment of pause, a chance to reflect on how we spent the previous cycle – were we present? Did we focus on what truly matters? This built-in reflection period compels us to approach the next cycle with renewed focus and intention.
